Please note: the concepts discussed in this advanced guide can be used with different page setups and configurations.
About the conference:
For this example, we will be using a large two-day conference that is made up of three separate streams. Each stream has its own schedule, however, the three streams will be combined for social events (e.g. Gala Dinner) and will share the same exhibition hall/exhibitors.
The three streams at this conference include:
- Melittology: The Science of Bees
- Next Gen Bees
- The Business of Bees
Each attendee is purchasing a ticket specific to the stream they will be attending as part of the conference. These will be recorded as attendee/profile types.
While the social events and exhibition hall will be shared activities across the three streams, attendees will not be moving between the various streams, and should only require access to the stream they have registered for.
Content Solution:
Use Smart Redirects to direct attendees to only view the content for their relevant event at the conference.
Smart Redirects allow you to show targeted content to attendees based on profile or device information. They can be simple or complex, allowing for as many attendee criteria or target pages as required. For example, one icon might redirect to several different content pages based on profile type.
Smart Redirects are created using multiple choice custom profile fields and profile types.
When logged in, an attendee can click on the Schedule icon and be directed to their relevant schedule.
If an attendee does not meet the required Smart Redirect rule (e.g. Staff Member etc.), they will be directed to a Blank Group sub-menu with all three options available to select from.

1. Create Schedules
In order to create a Smart Redirect, 3 separate schedule pages will need to be created - one for each stream. Each of these schedules can be setup to meet your design and display requirements.
Follow the steps below to create your schedule:
Confirm Schedule Requirements
The Schedule Builder has many features to display your schedule in the best way possible. Through the use of session grouping, colour-coded streams, adding rooms and speakers etc., attendees can easily navigate through the event and be kept well-informed. Click here to explore all Schedule Builder Features.
Create Schedule Content Page Type
- Navigate to Content from the Navigation Menu
- Click Create a New Page from the right-hand options on the Configuration Panel
- Select Schedule from the list of page types
- Click Create
- Enter a Title for your schedule
- Click Save
Create Days
- Navigate to Content from the Navigation Menu
- Select your schedule from the list of pages
- Click on the + button
- Enter a Title and Date
- Click Add To Schedule
Create Sessions
For the best results, sessions should be input back to front to minimise the need to re-order sessions (e.g. start with the last sessions for the day).
If working with a large schedule, sessions can be uploaded in bulk rather than individually.
Also, session groups can be created to manage concurrent or breakout sessions. Creating session groups is done using the Bulk Actions Feature this step is covered in the Setup Schedule article.
- Navigate to Content from the Navigation Menu
- Select your schedule from the list of pages
- Select the applicable schedule day from the horizontal tiles
- Click + New Session
- Enter Start Time, End Time and Session Title
- Click Create
Confirm Preferences
Optional Schedule Features:
- Create Speakers *
- Create Floor Plans and Rooms *
- Create Streams *
- Create Feedback *
- Update Session Details *
- Perform Bulk Actions *
2. Upload attendees
In order for the app to know which schedule to display, attendees must be logged into the app. As such, relevant attendee data will need to be uploaded into the Core (CMS).
Follow the below steps to upload attendees:
Confirm profile requirements
Profile data can be used in many places through the Entegy Suite. It is important to consider where and how profile data will be used. Click here to read more about profile considerations.
Profile types
Profile types can be used to segment profiles into groups. Five default profiles types are automatically created. These are staff, speaker, exhibitor, sponsor and attendee.
Profile types can be used to enhance other elements and increase functionality. For example, sending a target push notifications for those attending the gala dinner about the change in start time, or using smart redirects to show and hide content depending on the type of attendee.
While profile types have many uses, they are also a compulsory field required when uploading profiles.
For this example, Profile Types will need to be configured to match the three streams and then any other groups attending. This example has the following Profile Types:
- Melittology: The Science of Bees
- Next Gen Bees
- The Business of Bees
- Staff
- Exhibitor
Create Profile Types
- Navigate to Project Configuration > Profiles from the Navigation Menu
- Navigate to Type and click on the drop-down arrow
- Select Edit Options
- Click the + button
- Enter the profile type name and import keywords if applicable.
- Set permissions - if this profile type is to login to an app ensure App Login is checked. Organiser allows the user to view all profile information within the app and moderate activity feed comments
- Price - this is used with the Registration element to calculate the cost of tickets.
- Click Save
Optional Steps - Configure Profile Fields:
- Confirm custom field requirements
- Create required custom multiple choice fields
- Create required custom text fields
3. Create a Blank Group as a sub-menu
If an attendee does not meet the Smart Redirect rule (e.g. Staff or Exhibitor), they will be directed to a Blank Group with options to view each stream. This setup will utilise a Blank Group and Page Redirects to the relevant stream schedule (e.g. Next Gen Bees sub-menu item linked to Next Gen Bees schedule page)
Create a Blank Group sub-menu with each stream as an option
The blank group page type is a container page that can be created for the purpose of bundling (or grouping) pages together in an event App.
- Navigate to Content from the Navigation Menu
- Click Create a New Page from the right-hand options on the Configuration Panel
- Select Blank Group from the list of page types
- Click Create
- Enter a Title for your blank group content page type (your blank page container page)
- Click Save
- Click +
- Enter a Title, Subtitle, Copy and any other relevant information as required
- Click Save
- Repeat steps 7-9 until all relevant pages have been created
Create Page Redirect to direct to each relevant stream
Each sub-menu item listed in the Blank Group will need to be redirected to the relevant stream. This can be achieved using Page Redirects.
- Select the sub-menu page you wish to place a page redirect on
- Navigate to Redirect this page from the right-hand options
- Select a Target Page you wish to redirect to
- Click Save
4. Create a Smart Redirect
Smart Redirects allow you to show targeted content to attendees based on profile or device information. For this example, a Smart Redirect will need to be created based on Profile Type. The three streams will be directed to their relevant stream schedule, and all other profile types will be directed to the Blank Group sub-menu. The configuration will be the following:
- Melittology: The Science of Bees → Melittology: The Science of Bee Schedule
- Next Gen Bees → Next Gen Bees Schedule
- The Business of Bees → The Business of Bees Schedule
- Staff → Blank Group sub-menu
- Exhibitors → Blank Group sub-menu
Create a Smart Redirect rule based on Profile Types
- Navigate to App > Smart Redirects from the Navigation Menu
- Click + to create a new Smart Redirect
- Enter a Redirect Name
- Click the + to create a new Redirection Rule
- Select a Redirect target and action
- Target The page the redirect rule will take the attendee to (e.g.
- Action The attendee criteria for the rule (e.g. Profile Type is Staff or Users logged in)
- Click Add
- Once all redirection rules have been added, click Save
For example:
if profile.type is equal to Melittology: The Science of Bees go to Melittology: The Science of Bees Schedule
Create ‘Else Redirect To’
If an attendee does not match the criteria set by the rule (e.g. not attending a set stream), they can also be redirected to a set page. The ‘Else Redirect To’ will act as a fallback option.
It is best practice to create a Blank Group that can act as a sub-menu to ensure that even if an attendee does not meet the Smart Redirect rule, they can still access app content.
For this example, we have created a Blank Group sub-menu for this purpose.
- Navigate to Else Redirect To on the Smart Redirects page
- Click Select a Target
- Select the relevant target page
- Click Save
Once complete, the Smart Redirect will look like this:
5. Link Smart Redirect rule to an icon on the app Main Menu
Once the Smart Redirect rule has been created, it will need to be linked to either a Main Menu icon or a page. This will be linked as a feature.
- Navigate to App > Main Menu from the Navigation Menu
- Click + to open New Menu Item window
*Recommend you start at the bottom of this window at Target Page - Select a Target Page
- Click Coming Soon Message
- Navigate to Features and Click + Expand
- Navigate to Smart Redirects and Click + Expand
- Select the relevant Smart Redirect
- Select an Icon Image
- Input an Icon Title
- Click Save
