Audience Polling - Facilitator Guide

Audience Polling enables facilitators/speakers to pose questions to attendees in a session. These questions can be pre-populated, created on the fly, or created from Live Discussion comments or Submitted Questions.

Audience Polling questions can be created in a number of formats, such as multiple-choice, star rating and yes/no. Questions can be stored in the Audience Display Queue and asked at another time or instantly.

Audience Polling questions and results can also be pushed to an Audience Display Screen and the attendee App, which both update in real-time.

This guide includes the following instructions:

Create an Audience Polling question

Audience Polling questions can be populated before the event to save time inputting questions on-the-fly. Questions can be created in a number of formats such as multiple choice and yes/no.

Questions can be stored in the display queue and asked at another time or asked on-the-fly.

While there is no limit on the length of a question, we would recommend questions no longer than 250 characters - keep in mind how your question will display on the venue display screen and the attendee’s device.

To create an Audience Polling question

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel
  2. Select the event
  3. Click Facilitator for the relevant session
  4. Select the Audience Polling tile
  5. Click Create a New Question
  6. Input question and the style of answers
  7. Click Create Question
  8. Click No to store the question for another time

NOTE: To delete a question, access the session via the CMS (Interactive Sessions - > View Sessions -> Session -> Questions (from drop-down))

Compare Audience Polling question responses

The same Audience Polling question can be asked multiple times, and responses compared. This display option might be useful for comparing how an audience’s perception of a question or issue might have changed before, during and after a session.

Please note: to compare Audience Polling responses, the same question must be asked more than once, and only the responses from the same question can be compared. E.g. Question 2 might be asked at the start of the session and again at the end of the session. Question 2 can only be compared with another instance of Question 2 being asked.

To compare Audience Polling question responses

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel
  2. Select the event
  3. Click Facilitator for the relevant session
  4. Select the Audience Polling tile
  5. Click Select from All Question from the action tiles
  6. Select a question previously asked (questions with green ticks next to them indicate the question has already been asked)
  7. Click Start Voting
  8. Navigate to the Audience Display options and click Compare
  9. Select a previous question instance to compare to
  10. When finished, click Close and Remove Question

Audience Polling Display Queue

Audience Polling questions are created in a Display Queue. This queue will cycle through when using the Audience Polling feature. Each question will appear one after the other in the queue order.

The Display Queue is complete once each question has been asked once. The queue is designed to run through once.

Start processing the Display Queue (ask Audience Polling questions)

Once pre-populated, the Display Queue containing all Audience Polling questions can begin.

Questions will cycle through in the queued order, the next question appearing once the previous question has been closed and removed. Questions can be reordered from the CMS to suit and updates to question order.

Please note: Questions will continue to cycle through until all questions in the queue after that question has been asked. For example, the first question asked might be the 4th question in the queue of 6 questions. Questions 4 to 6 will be asked as part of the queue, however, as questions 1 to 3 were first in the queue, these will not be asked.

TIP:

Once a question has been asked, it will no longer be part of the Display Queue. When testing, results will need to be reset in order to reset the Display Queue.

To start the Display Queue

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel
  2. Select the event
  3. Click Facilitator for the relevant session
  4. Select the Audience Polling tile
  5. The first question in the Display Queue will appear
  6. Click Ask this Question
  7. Click Start Voting
  8. When ready to close the question, click Stop Voting and Show Answer or Close and Remove
  9. The next question in the queue will appear
  10. Repeat steps 6-9 until all questions in the Display Queue have been asked

Reset the Audience Polling Display Queue

When testing Interactive Sessions, best practice encourages Audience Polling questions to be tested on the Display Screen prior to the event. Once a question has been asked, it will no longer be part of the Display Queue, which means the Display Queue will need to be reset in order to start again.

Before resetting the Display Queue, ensure that there are no open questions from testing.

To ensure no open Audience Polling questions

  2. Select the event
  3. Click Facilitator for the relevant session
  4. Navigate to the Audience Polling tile
    1. No Current Polling Question: no action is required - prepare to reset the Display Queue

  2. Navigate to the relevant session
